Kalanick's Thesis: https://atoms.co/vision
An example of a dream company^ Or a manifesto I feel religious towards.
Cpu manipulates bits, but what manipulates atoms? Manufacturing and mining. Storage stores bits, but what stores materials? Real estate. Network moves bits from A->B, what moves materials? Transportation/logistics.
I'm honestly super grateful to be in the pipeline with a talent dense team at cloudkitchen, by parent company atoms.co, by my glorious inventor king travis kalanick—working on distributed sys and data/infra problems to help construct the next computer-like machines for all physical processes irl. eg: ubereats, doordash, fantuan scheduling/routing, etc.
I have yet to come across a venture that was worth complimenting. Most startup-like companies i’m extremely bearish on, and think their future is bankruptcy, in the name of arrogant capitalism.
but I think I've found my soulmate: operating systems and low level philsophy for physical/fundamental labor;
The next Golden Age being when ugly/hard labor divorces from humans and is married to machines.
Big Idea: What if we could model our society and world as the machine/computer that never turns off? the physical operations of our world?
Let the machines handle what is so ugly and hard, and let the humans enjoy the fruition of automation--the beauty of power.
"Let's say the entire world, everything in our world, was automated except for plumbers," Kalanick said. "Those guys, each and every plumber, would be like LeBron.
His argument: in any scenario short of superintelligent AGI, humans who perform irreplaceable physical tasks will become more economically valuable, not less. He used plumbers as his illustrative case. If machines automate everything except the work that requires a human to physically complete an installation or connection, demand for that human labor becomes the binding constraint on broader progress. Says Forbes.
The basics: Uncovering any form of deterministic “truths” abt the world is in fact the essence of math and science. it’s all we care about. its also the intersection of science, math, philosphy, literature, etc.
The truth of how the world works(ugly/hard industries), broken into atomic bits, automated through the software layer will be the stepping stones to the next Golden Era(agreeing with kalanick)—it won’t be some agi sam altman fairytale sociopathic crowd manipulation, it will be first: the machines of oil rigs, minerals, supply chains—the spine of what keep society operating. Wealth is not money—that was only okay in kindergarten.
Wealth is the measurement or power over what you can do with other humans time. $2.89 doritos is a reflection of every human labor and supply chain system necessary to produce the ingredients to compose that.
kalanick’s vision is to create the computer layer for all human capital. so instead of weaving drivers, cpu, memory mapped i/o via bus—it’s physical labour, manufacturing, delivery/kitchens, robots, etc.
In china they're also working on deep systems like: u crave hand pull noodles: you click—noodle machine never make mistake, driver is a robot, hot and fresh at your door.
wallahi cross my heart, this is our future across manufacturing(china mogs), supply chain, resturants, anything hard labour force.
From concurrent fries in the bag, all the way to rare earth minerals—atoms.co abstracts over ugly hardware/physical truths to create an elegant computer for the world.
Real digitalization of the physical in 3 steps:
- Understand the current state of the physical world.
- Predict the future state of the physical world.
- Control the future state of the physical world.
to further hard praise and elaborate on why travis kalanick is my 21st century Alan Turning, he proved his thesis correct about automating the world through uber eats, and I believe likewise can extrapolate those same principles across production real estate, restaurants, manufacturing, etc. how many business grads know that mcdonald’s is not a fast food company? it’s a real estate company. school is not necessarily about opening your eyes to world or the truth. Critical thinking humanity has to do in their spare time.
I firmly believe no further shitty dashboard automation adds value to society. it will be when the unit economics of ordering roast beef homemade noodles is truly cheaper than grocery ingredients yourself(an example)—that’s disruption on the labor force.
everything that is both attractive and ugly as hell about a computer will shape the world in the coming decades—applying low level design thinking into the physical world, and that is my 3-bet pre-flop(blind) action on where we are heading(if i was a hedge fund investor)
eww crms, eww agents managing dashboards. I clearly do not see what your investors are seeing…wallahi that is not our future. giga low-t chopped. there is no revolution in automation that only persists within the devices, and cannot be abstracted for the core theories and fundemental chess movements of society---the operating systems and design for how the world fundamentally works, I claim, is computational art and certainly where society is deterministically heading.
The unit economics governing society do not lie about ARR—they are the pillars in which society is build upon.
